Science, Technology, and Innovation Need Identification for Sustainable Development of Kargil” 15 July 2026 at Government Degree College Kargil

The stakeholder consultation on “Science, Technology, and Innovation Need Identification for Sustainable Development of Kargil”, organized by CSIR–NIScPR in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (IIT Delhi and IIT Jammu) and Government Degree College, Kargil, aimed to identify region-specific science and technology interventions for sustainable livelihoods in the trans-Himalayan region. The programme, held under the flagship initiative “Leveraging CSIR Technologies for Rural Development: Expanding Initiatives and Identifying Opportunities,” brought together over 100 participants, including scientists, academicians, policymakers, government officials, financial institutions, entrepreneurs, farmers, self-help groups, students, and civil society representatives. Technical sessions by experts from CSIR-CFTRI, CSIR-NIIST, ICAR, NABARD, University of Ladakh, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra highlighted opportunities in sustainable agriculture, Heeng cultivation, food processing, renewable energy, and rural entrepreneurship. The consultation identified priority technology needs, strengthened institutional collaborations, promoted CSIR technologies, and recommended pilot demonstrations, capacity building, and evidence-based policy interventions for sustainable and inclusive development in Kargil

Workshop on “Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem: Policies, Challenges and Opportunities” at CSIR-NIScPR, 27 February 2026

The CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) organized a one-day workshop titled “Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem: Policies, Challenges, and Opportunities” on 27 February 2026 at its Pusa Campus, New Delhi, to support evidence-based policy research on strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The workshop brought together more than 100 in-person and over 200 online participants from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), NITI Aayog, IISc Bengaluru, IIT Delhi, IIT Jodhpur, BITS Pilani, DRDO laboratories, CSIR laboratories (CEERI, CSIO, NPL, and NAL), RIS, academia, and leading semiconductor companies including Intel India, Lam Research, Applied Materials, Sahasra Semiconductors, and VerveSemi. Deliberations focused on research and development, semiconductor manufacturing, design innovation, workforce development, policy and governance, and global partnerships. The workshop generated actionable recommendations for strengthening research infrastructure, fostering industry–academia collaboration, promoting indigenous technologies, enhancing supply chain resilience, and building a globally competitive, innovation-driven, and self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem for India

CSR Meet and Capacity Building Workshop: Strengthening Grassroots Development through Science & Technology Interventions, 11-12 September 2025 at CSIR-NIScPR

Jointly Organized by CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi and VibhaVani India, supported by Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN), Vijnana Bharati, and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (11-12 September 2025), at CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi

The two-day CSR Meet and Capacity Building Workshop brought together a diverse group of experts, scientists, policymakers, CSR professionals, academicians, and grassroots organizations. Distinguished participants included Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Dr. Yogesh Suman, Shri N.P. Rajive, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Dr. Jitendra Kumar (Managing Director, BIRAC), Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe (Chairman, NAAC), and Dr. Vipin Kumar (Chief Scientist, National Innovation Foundation). Scientists from CSIR laboratories including IHBT, CSMCRI, IICT, CIMAP, and NIIST, representatives from Unnat Bharat Abhiyan's National and Regional Coordinating Institutions, higher education institutions, CSR organizations, industry partners, NGOs, and local farmers actively participated, fostering collaborations for science and technology-driven sustainable grassroots development. More than 150 participants participated the event.

TRL Assessment & Patent Landscaping of Energy Technologies: Pathways for Commercialization’ under a theme Energy and Energy Devices (EED) of One Week One Theme (OWOT), 25 June 2025 at CSIR-NCL Pune

As part of CSIR’s One Week One Theme (OWOT) initiative on “Energy and Energy Devices (EED)”, CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), in collaboration with CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune, organized the event “TRL Assessment and Patent Landscaping of Energy Technologies: Pathways for Commercialization” on 25 June 2024. The programme brought together over 150 participants from CSIR laboratories, academia, industry, start-ups, government organizations, and technology transfer agencies to discuss strategies for accelerating the commercialization of energy technologies. Experts highlighted the importance of integrating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessment with patent landscaping to evaluate technological maturity, identify innovation opportunities, and support commercialization. Discussions focused on hydrogen technologies, clean energy, carbon-neutral innovations, venture capital, intellectual property, startup ecosystems, and market readiness. The event emphasized collaboration among research institutions, industry, funding agencies, and policymakers to bridge the gap between laboratory research and market deployment, thereby advancing sustainable energy innovation in India.

One-day national workshop on “Emerging research frontiers in marine and allied sciences with spotlight on the Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Sciences (IJMS)”

Jointly organized by CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi and CSIR-NIO, Goa, on 27 May 2025, the workshop focused on emerging research frontiers in marine and allied sciences, with a special spotlight on the Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Sciences (IJMS). Conducted in a hybrid mode, the event witnessed the participation of 348 delegates from 14 institutions through both physical and virtual platforms. The workshop featured expert lectures and a Leaders' Dialogue on marine research, Open Science, the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, science communication, and sustainable development. Deliberations emphasized strengthening indigenous scholarly publishing through quality research contributions to IJMS and other Indian journals, while fostering interdisciplinary and industry-academia collaborations. Overall, the workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and outlined strategic pathways for advancing India's marine research and publishing ecosystem in alignment with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.

Workshop on “Interactive and New Approaches to Communicate Science: SVASTIK as a Case Study” at Vigyanika Science Literature Festival, IISF2024

In the Vigyanika Science Literature Festival, a part of the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2024, a workshop on “Interactive and New Approaches to Communicate Science: SVASTIK as a case study” was conducted on 2 December 2024. The workshop demonstrated innovative strategies for engaging audiences through infographics, videos, podcasts, and social media platforms. The workshop was followed by an interactive session with the audience.

Pre-conference workshop on Indian Traditional Knowledge

A workshop on “Indian traditional knowledge” under the #SVASTIK initiative for the students and faculties of Gurugram University, Gurugram, on 08 October 2024, as a prelude to the International conference CDTK-2024. The interactive sessions gave insights to the participants about the SVASTIK initiative, ways to prepare abstract and research papers in various domains of traditional knowledge, and leveraging social media for TK learning.

Technology Demonstration and Networking Meet of ‘CSIR-CFTRI Food and Millet Technologies’ on 19-20 September 2024 at CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru

CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), in collaboration with CSIR–Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), organized the Technology Showcasing and Networking Meet of CFTRI Food and Millet Technologies at Mysuru on 19–20 September 2024. The event brought together over 100 participants, including scientists, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, policymakers, financial institutions, farmers, and rural development organizations, to promote the deployment of CSIR-CFTRI technologies for rural livelihood generation. Technical sessions showcased innovations in food processing, millet-based products, post-harvest management, nutraceuticals, value addition, and entrepreneurship. Interactive networking sessions connected technology developers with potential adopters and funding agencies to facilitate technology transfer and commercialization. Discussions highlighted government financing schemes, startup support, and institutional partnerships for scaling food technologies. The meet strengthened collaborations among research institutions, industry, financial organizations, and rural stakeholders to accelerate technology adoption, enhance food security, promote entrepreneurship, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities across rural India.

Conclave on Policy Deliberations for Strengthening South-South Cooperation (Prelude to the Science Summit at the 79 United Nations General Assembly” on 11 September 2024 at CSIR-NIScPR

The conclave on “Policy Deliberations for Strengthening South-South Cooperation”, jointly organized by CSIR, WAITRO, and APCTT and hosted by CSIR-NIScPR on 11 September 2024, served as a precursor to the Science Summit at the 79th United Nations General Assembly. The event brought together policymakers, scientists, and representatives from international organizations, universities, and research institutions to explore collaborative strategies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Discussions focused on three major themes: responsible governance for research and innovation, diversity, equity and inclusion in science, and funding mechanisms for research and development cooperation. Experts emphasized ethical and inclusive science, open access to knowledge, integration of indigenous knowledge systems, gender equality, and capacity building across Southern countries. The conclave highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional partnerships, enhancing knowledge sharing, promoting equitable funding mechanisms, and fostering collaborative research networks to accelerate sustainable development and reinforce South-South cooperation as a key driver of global scientific and technological progress.

Workshop on Science & Technology Communication

CSIR-NIScPR, in collaboration with Global Health Strategies (GHS), organised a Science & Technology Communication workshop on 11 June 2024 at its Pusa campus, New Delhi. The workshop brought together scientists, science communicators, and educators to discuss effective ways of engaging with media and using social media to communicate scientific research and technical evidence in simple, accessible language for the public.

Workshop on Interactive and New Approaches to Communicate Science in Assamese

CSIR-NIScPR organised a virtual workshop on 11 March 2024 on "Interactive and New Approaches to Communicate Science in Assamese," focusing on popular science writing, videos, podcasts, and social media. The workshop brought together science communicators, teachers, and researchers from Assam to build a network and enhance science communication in the Assamese language.

Workshop cum Training on “Making Value Added Products Using CSIR Technologies in Andaman Region”, 11-12 January 2024

CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), and Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) jointly organized a two-day Workshop cum Training on “Making Value Added Products Using CSIR Technologies in Andaman Region” at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, from. The workshop aimed towards providing training and exposure to farmers, women, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and aspiring entrepreneurs, on various CSIR Technologies like making value-added products from Pandanus fruit using technology developed by CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT); Decentralized Solar Thermal Dryer for Hygienic Drying of Food Products developed by CSIR- Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), Dehumidified Dryer Technology by CSIR-NIIST Trivandrum and Managing Fungus Problems in Betel Nuts technology developed by CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT). The program also provided exposure to participants about CSIR AROMA & Floriculture Mission run by CSIR and various schemes of DSIR. They were also told about how to write effective project proposals for applying for funding from Government Organizations like NABARD. Presentations were also made about various initiatives being undertaken under Unnat Bharata Abhiyan coordinated by IIT Delhi. In the concluding session officials from NABARD, Port Blair, provided exposure about the achievements of NABARD in the regional development of Andaman and Nicobar Island other initiatives for its development. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of more than 100 local participants including members from Community Resource Persons (CRP) and Self Help Groups (SHGs). The participation was dominated by young women aspiring entrepreneurs, SHGs, FPOs etc.

Grassroot Innovations and Skill Development Conclave for rural development under OWOL event on 14 September 2023 at CSIR-NPL Auditorium, New Delhi

The objective of the event was to showcase CSIR Rural technologies for the benefit of farmers, interested entrepreneurs, students and stakeholders from UBA and VIBHA Networks. The event was attended by about 450 participants, including scientists, academicians, farmers, Women Self Help Groups (SHGs), Entrepreneurs, FPOs, college students and stakeholders from UBA & VIBHA Networks from Delhi and NCR. It facilitated productive interactions, training, and the exchange of ideas focusing on various sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, sustainable practices, etc. that can help in creating opportunities for collaboration among participants thereby creating opportunities for the dissemination of CSIR Technologies in rural areas to address problems through science and technology intervention.

Hands-On training Program on Utilisation of offered flower for making of Incense Stick & Cone for Women and Unemployed Youth at Pilli Padav village, Haridwar, 25 May 2023

The workshop aimed to provide training and encouragement to farmers and women on incense stick making technique developed by CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow. Over 100 women participants attended the workshop. The trainees showed great interest and actively participated in the detailed demonstration. Intricacies of the process were demonstrated for providing exposure to the participants about how to make incense sticks using floral waste.

One-day training Workshop on Incense Stick Making from Flowers at Shobhit University, Gangoh, 24 May 2023

The event aimed to provide exposure to the farmers and small entrepreneurs to manufacture intense sticks from the flowers collected from nearby temples and other religious places, through the use of technology. . The knowledge support and training was provided by CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow. More than 100 participants from CSIR-Labs, RCIs & PIs of UBA, SHGs, and farmers participated in the event in person and about 190 participants joined the event through live Facebook link.

One Day Training/Demonstration Workshop on Bamboo Cultivation and Bamboo Candy Making Jointly Organized by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan- RCI, IIT Jammu, CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, NCI, IIT Delhi, 28 April 2023 at IIT Jammu

The aim of the workshop was to provide training on Bamboo cultivation and production of value added products from Bamboo in the Jammu region for creation of livelihood opportunities for farmers, and enhancing their income through Bamboo farming and making value added products using bamboo as raw material. The event brought scientists, academia’s, Regional Coordinating Institutes of UBA (RCIs), Participating Institutions (PIs) of UBA, SHGs, Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), farmers, and village communities together on a single platform to discuss the opportunities as well as challenges in the Bamboo cultivation and making of value added products using technologies developed by CSIR-IHBT, Palampur .
