Abstract: A simple and highly efficient procedure has been described for the synthesis of 1-(5-aryl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazol-2-ylmethyl)-3-(3-methylphenyl)-1H-[1,8]naphthyridin-2-ones 5 by the oxidation of the corresponding [2-oxo-3-(3-methylphenyl)-2H-[1,8]naphthyri­din-1-yl]acetic acid arylidenehydrazides 4 with iodobenzene diacetate [ PhI(OAc)2] in solid state. The products are obtained in good yields and in a state of high purity. The structural assignments of compounds 2-5 are based on their elemental analyses and spectral (IR and 1 H NMR) data.
