Abstract: Studies on the uptake of Cr(VI) were carried out using the bacterium Bacillus mycoides, isolated from industrial wastewater in the presence of sulphate. Cr(VI) uptake by B. mycoides was found to be concentration dependent. The uptake of Cr(VI) was maximum at pH 7. The study suggested that sulphate acted as a non-competitive inhibitor of Cr(VI) and it was transported inside the cell through the cell membrane by some different sites rather than sulphate uptake transport site of the B. mycoides system.
