Metal complexes of S, N donors: Synthesis & characterisation of As(III) & Sb(III) complexes with 2-alkylaminocyclopentene-l-carbodithioic acids

Abstract

Reactions of MX₃ (M = As(III), Sb(III), X = Cl or OPrⁱ) with alkali (Na/Li) salts of 2-alkylamino- cyclopentene-1-carbodithioic acids or acid itself [R(H)N<img src='http://www.niscair.res.in/jinfo/equation158.gif' border=0>C(S)SM&rsquo;]in 1:3 molar ratio in anhydrous benzene, yield neutral six-coordinate complexes of type M[S(S)C<img src='http://www.niscair.res.in/jinfo/equation158.gif' border=0>N(H)R]₃ where M = As(III), Sb(III); M' = H, Na or Li and R == H, Me, Et and <em>n-</em>Bu<em>. </em>Spectral data indicate that bonding in these complexes occurs through SS sites leading to the formation of four-membered chelate ring.
