Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of 3-(3,5-dimethylisoxazol-4-yl)-2-arylthiazolidin-4-ones as potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents

Abstract

3-(3,5-Dimethylisoxazol-4-yl)-2-arylthiazolidin-4-ones <strong>3a-l</strong> have been synthesized from 4-amino-3,5-dimethylisoxazole <strong>1</strong> by condensation with aromatic aldehydes, followed by cyclization with mercaptoacetic acid in excellent yields, and have been evaluated for <em>in vitro</em> antioxidant activity. Based on potential antioxidant property, compounds <strong>3c</strong>, <strong>3e</strong>, <strong>3h</strong>, <strong>3i</strong>, and <strong>3l</strong> have been screened for <em>in vivo</em> anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. Molecular docking studies have also been carried out to balance the bioactivity results. From these results it is evident that the compound <strong>3c</strong> shows potential anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity.
