Abstract: ZnO nanoparticles have been synthesized from zinc acetate using 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate as capping agent under microwave irradiation condition in a very short period of time and characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and NH3-TPD analysis. The ZnO NPs have been used as a solid reusable acid catalyst for esterification of carboxylic acids with alcohols.
