Abstract: A series of styrylquinozolinones, designated as SQ 1-4 have been synthesized and investigated for their photophysical and electrochemical properties. Both HOMO and LUMO levels are markedly affected by the extent of π-electron polarization in these systems. The donor-π-acceptor systems, SQ 1-2 exhibit red shifted absorption and emission bands as well as relatively lower band gaps compared to SQ 3-4 possessing acceptor-π-acceptor architecture. Our findings suggest that SQ 1-4 can potentially function as bipolar transporting systems, with SQ 1-2 and SQ 3-4 qualifying as green and blue electroluminescent materials, respectively.
