Some new diphenyltellurium(IV)-bis-β-diketonates, Ph2 Te{RC(O):CHC(O)R'}2(I) and 4-methoxyphenyltellurium-β -diketonates, 4-MeOC6H4 TeCl3-n {RC(O):CHC(O)R'}n (II). n = 1-3, R = R' = Me, Ph or CF3, have. been synthesized by the reaction of RC(O)Na:CHC(O)R' with Ph2TeCl2 and MeOC6H4 TeCI3. The compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molecular weights, molar conductance measurements and spectral data (IR, 1H and 13C NMR). Molecular weight measurements suggest that the compounds of the type (I) are monomeric and those of the type (II) are dimeric in solution. The asymmetric chelation of β -diketonate moiety with tellurium in (I) and bridging of the two tellurium atoms by oxygen atoms of β-diketonate moieties in (II) are inferred from the IR and 1H NMR data.en_US
