Abstract: Kinetics of flocculation of iron oxide sol by hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) has been studied turbidimetrically. Various kinetic parameters such as the percent flocculation, the flocculation rate and the rate constants for flocculation and deflocculation have been evaluated. Both the qualitative and quantitative effects of various parameters such as the polymer dosage, pH of the suspension, salt concentration, degree of hydrolysis and molecular weight of polymer on the kinetics of flocculation have been investigated.
