Abstract: Excess adsorption data of the binary mixtures benzene(A)+ 1,2-dichloroethane(B), toluene(A)+ 1,2dichloroethane(B) and o-xylene(A)+ 1,2-dichloroethane(B) on silica gel have been measured. While n0 x1A/m values for benzene(A)+ 1,2-dichloroethane(B) and o-xylene(A) + 1,2-dichloroethane(B) mixtures are positive over the entire concentration range, those for toluene(A)+ 1,2-dichloroethane(B) mixture are positive upto xeA< 0.40 and become negative at xeA > 0.40. The data have been analysed in terms of Rudzinskii approach which has been observed to best reproduce the experimental excess adsorption data if self-interaction energies of the pure components are evaluated from Sanchez and Lacombe theory of fluids and the adsorption energy data are evaluated using statistical mechanic model of adsorption.
