Abstract: Condensation of 2-hydrazino-3-(3-chlorophenyl)-1,8-naph¬thyridine 2 with different acetophenones in methanol containing a catalytic amount of glacial acetic acid affords the corresponding aceto¬phenone 3-(3-chlorophenyl)-1,8-naphthyridin-2-ylhydra¬zones 3 in excellent yields. The hydrazones 3 when subjected to the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction with POCl₃-DMF gives 3-aryl-4-formyl-1-[3-(3-chlorophenyl)-1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl]pyrazoles 4 in good yields. The structural assignments to compounds 3 and 4 are based on their elemental analyses and spectral data. Compounds 4 have been tested for their antibacterial activity.
