Abstract: The effect of sheath-fibre denier and twist on the characteristics of core-spun yarns, with a constant polyester core, was studied. Core-spun yarns with the same core component but with finer-denier viscose sheath fibre gave a higher strength and an overall higher yarn quality index. Alteration of twist did not affect the number of neps, which however decreased with increase in fibre denier. Thick places increased with increase in fibre denier. Flex abrasion resistance decreased with decrease in twist, but was higher for yarns spun with finer-denier sheath fibre.
