Abstract: | The experiment was conducted at Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur to evaluate the effect of growth regulators on root formation in carnation Dianthus caryophyllus cvs. Dessio and White Candy during 2002-04. The terminal cuttings were prepared from plants growing vigorously under polyhouse conditions. The terminal cuttings were treated for 10 minutes by dipping method using different concentrations of NAA and IBA separately and in different combinations. These cuttings were planted in coarse sand bed under mist chamber. The treatment with NAA+IBA, 500+250 ppm produced the best results in terms of days taken for rooting (32), root length (4.25 cm), and percentage of successful rooting (72%). On comparison to cv. White Candy variety Dessio was found to be more responsive in terms of each parameter. |
