Abstract: | Rare earth cuprates of composition Ln2-xMxCu1-yM’yO4-δ (where Ln=La, Nd, Sm and Dy; M=Sr,Ca and Ba; M'=Ru,Sb and Mn; 0.0≤X≤0.4 and Y=0.1) have been examined as anodes for methanol oxidation These materials display significant activity towards methanol oxidation in alkaline medium at room temperature. The electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation is higher for noble metals like platinum than that for perovskite oxides. However, latter systems seem to have better electrode stability. |
