Abstract: Eucalyptus is one of the import ant pulping raw materials in India, Australia, Brazil, South East Asian and European countries , and South Africa. Kraft pul ping and bleaching with chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide is considered to gene rate effluents containing toxic organochlorines. This study deals with the kraft pulping of eucalyptus and conventional bleaching with chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide and characterization of effluents for toxic pollutants. Effect of different pulping and bleaching conditions on the generation of pollutants, e.g. , colour, COD, AOX, EOX, EOX, POX is also studied.
