Abstract: Cyperus rotundus Linn. (Family: Cyperaceae), commonly known as Motha is a turf grass which grows everywhere including lawns . It has wide range of medicinal and pharmacological applications. It is used in traditional system of medicine and exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, antipyretic, analgesic, antidiabetic, antidiarrhoeal, cytoprotective, antmutagenic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, cytotoxic, apoptotic and various other activities. Motha is used in many Ayurvedic preparations. This paper provides an overview on phytopharmacological properties and multifaceted therapeutic benefits of the plant.
