| Abstract: | The physical
properties of the mixture of two non-mesomorphic compounds which give
considerable insight into the mesomorphic state of the compound, have been
studied. The mesomorphic states of mixture of cholesterol (non-mesomorphic
compound) and tetradecanol (non-mesomorphic compound) have been studied which
give twisted nematic phase or cholestric phase and have wide applications in
optical devices or display devices. The thermal behaviour of ultrasonic
velocity, specific volume, adiabatic compressibility and molar compressibility
in the mixture at phase transition and their interpretation have been
investigated. The results using Fabry Perrot Scattering Studies [FPSS] are also
presented. |
