|Abstract:||Polyomaviruses (PyVs), members of the family Polyomaviridae, are strictly vertebrate resident viruses implicated in various pathogenic conditions including neoplasias, especially in human. This study aims to review both nucleotide and amino acid sequences of large T-antigen (LTAg), virion protein 1 (VP1) gene and also whole genomes of all known PyVs till date, in ascertaining phylogenetic relationships among themselves. The study detected genomic recombinations within the oncoprotein LTAg coding sequences of PyV group, and identified unique nucleotide and amino acid positions in the conserved regions of PyV-LTAg coding sequence, which can facilitate strain differentiations in clinical samples.|
