Abstract: A simple and highly efficient procedure has been described for the synthesis of 1-(5-aryl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazol-2-ylmethyl)-3-(3-methylphenyl)-1<i>H</i>-[1,8]naphthyridin-2-ones <b style="">5 </b>by the oxidation of the corresponding [2-oxo-3-(3-methylphenyl)-2<i>H</i>-[1,8]naphthyri¬≠din-1-yl]acetic acid arylidenehydrazides <b style="">4 </b>with iodobenzene diacetate [ PhI(OAc)<sub>2</sub>] in solid state. The products are obtained in good yields and in a state of high purity. The structural assignments of compounds <b style="">2-5</b> are based on their elemental analyses and spectral (IR and <sup>1</sup> H NMR) data.
