Abstract: <smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="country-region"><smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="place"><smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="City"> 4-Methyl-3-acetyl cinnoline used as a precursor to synthesize some new cinnoline based chalcones <b style="">3a-l</b>. Reaction of chalcone with hydrazine hydrate in acetic acid yields the cinnoline based pyrazoline derivatives <b style="">4a-l</b>. The structures of synthesized compounds have been confirmed by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectral studies and  evaluated for their antibacterial activity against <i style="">Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureaus</i> and <i style="">Klebsiella pneumoniae</i>, antifungal activity against <i style="">Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus niger</i> and <i style="">Trichoderma viridae</i> and insecticidal activity against <i style="">Periplaneta americana.</i> </smarttagtype></smarttagtype></smarttagtype>
