Abstract: Bismuth oxide perchlorate efficiently and chemoselectively catalyzes the thioacetalization of both aliphatic and aromatic carbonyl compounds under solvent-free conditions. Stearically hindered ketones are also thioacetalized in excellent yields with stoichiometric amounts of 1,3-propanedithiol at room temperature.
