Abstract: Some new 2'-hydroxy-5'-(phenylazo)-N- (1",3"-diketo­phenyl­amine)-3-chloroazetidin -2-ones 2a-l have been synthesized and their structures have been established on the basis of their elemental analysis and spectroscopic data. Compounds 2e, j and l show significant antibacterial and antifungal activity. 2'-hydroxy-5'(p-chlorophenylazo)-N-(1", 3"-diketo-p-chlorophenylamine)-3-chloroazetidin-2-one 2l has been found to be a more potent anti­fungal agent against A. niger and C. albicans as compared to the control drug-Fluconazole.
