Abstract: | Primary and secondary alcohols are efficiently oxidized to the corresponding carbonyl compounds using CrO3 supported onto alumina under solvent- free conditions. It has been found that the presence of small amount of t-butanol in the reaction media is essential. Over-oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids and cleavage of carbon–carbon double bond is not observed by this method. |
