2-oxocyclopentane-1-carboxylate is selectively C-alkylated with several
2-(3,4-dihydro-1-naphthalenyl)ethyl-4-methylphenylsulphonates to give the
corresponding seco-steroids, which on cyclodehydration followed by degradation
in 5% Pd-C has afforded the corresponding title compounds. |
