Abstract: 2-Amino-6-(4-methylphenylsulphonyl)-5,6-dihydro-4<i>H</i>-benzo[<i>b</i>]thieno[3,2-<i>d</i>] azepin-1-yl cyanide<b> 3</b> is subjected to a variety of annelation reactions to give compounds <b>4</b>-<b>8</b>. Compound <b>8</b> when subjected to nucleophilic displacement reactions with different amines affords 12-substituted derivatives <b>12-15</b>.
