Abstract: Ten new fluorine containing 1, 5-disubstituted hydantoins/thiohydantoi-  ns <b style="">3</b> have been synthesized by a microwave-assisted solvent-free condensation of arylglyoxals<b style="">1</b> and phenylurea/thiourea <b style="">2</b> using acidic alumina as a solid support. These compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, <sup>1</sup>H NMR and MS. Compounds have been evaluated for their antibacterial activity.
