Abstract: The densities and sound speeds of mixtures of acetophenone, propiophenone, paramethyl acetophenone and parachloro acetophenone with acrylonitrile, over the entire range of composition, have been measured at a temperature of 308.15 K. The deviations in speed <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>u</i>, isentropic compressibility <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>k</i><sub>S</sub>, intermolecular free-length <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>L</i><sub>F</sub> and relative association <i>R</i><sub>A</sub> have been computed using speed and density values. The <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>u</i> values are positive whereas <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>k</i><sub>S</sub> and <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>L</i><sub>F</sub> values are negative for all the systems, which indicate the specific interactions between unlike molecules. The results are discussed in the light of intermolecular interactions occurring in the solutions. The computed results of <img src='/image/spc_char/delta.gif' border=0><i>k</i><sub>S</sub>, have been fitted to a Redlich-Kister type polynomial equation.
