| Abstract: | A true or classic Living Fossil is one that was only known from the
fossil record until a living representative was discovered, as the sole
surviving member of a once numerous and widespread group. Cockroaches have been
around for approximately 350 million years and realistically speaking, have never
really disappeared only to be rediscovered amidst scientific rejoicing. Therefore,
they only qualify as Living Fossils on a technicality—because they have been around so
long and have changed so little in the interim. |
