Abstract: | Ultrasonic velocity (U), density (ρ) and viscosity (η) have been measured for three amino acids, namely, glycine, L-alanine and L-serine in the mixture of dimethyl formamide (DMF) and water, at different proportions of DMF at 298 K. The adiabatic compressibility (β), change in adiabatic compressibility (Δβ), relative change in adiabatic compressibility (Δβ/β⁰), apparent molal compressibility (φĸ ), apparent molal volume (φĸ ), limiting apparent molal compressibility (φ⁰ĸ ), limiting apparent molal volume (φ⁰ ), and their constants (SK, SV), and viscosity B-coefficient have been calculated for all the ternary systems. The results have been interpreted in the light of intermolecular interactions in terms of the structure-making or structure-breaking effects of these amino acids in the mixture. |
