Abstract: Extraction of Zn(II) with phosphine oxides cyanex-923 and cyanex-925 from sulphate solution is described. Extraction was found to be quantitative with 0.01M cyanex-923 and 0.03 M cyanex-925 in toluene in the pH range 8.0-10.0. From organic phase of cyanex-923 and cyanex-925, Zn(II) was stripped out with 1.0 M HCl and 1.0 M H2SO4 respectively and determined spectrophotometrically. Effect of various parameters such as reagent concentration, equilibration period, effect of various diluents and diverse ions on the extraction of Zn(II) was also studied. The stoichiometry of the extracted species was determined on the basis of slope analysis method.
