Abstract: Methanol extracts of 23 plants were screened for their antibacterial activity against multi-drug resistant bacteria, viz. Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, Salmonella typhi and S. paratyphi A to find out an alternative source of active principles/compounds. The extracts of Cryptolepis buchanani (Linn.) Roem. & Schult., Mangifera indica Linn., Manilkara hexandra (Roxb.) Dubard and Nyctanthes arbor-tristis Linn. exhibited significant antibacterial activity with MIC value of 1-8mg/ml.
