Abstract: Methanol extracts of 23 plants were screened for their antibacterial activity against multi-drug resistant bacteria, viz. <i>Staphylococcus</i> <i>aureus, S</i>.<i> epidermidis, Salmonella typhi</i> and <i>S. paratyphi</i> A to find out an alternative source of active principles/compounds. The extracts of <b><i>Cryptolepis</i> <i>buchanani</i> (Linn.) Roem. & Schult.</b>, <b><i>Mangifera indica</i> Linn.</b>, <b><i>Manilkara hexandra</i> (Roxb.) Dubard</b> and <b><i>Nyctanthes</i> <i>arbor-tristis</i> Linn.</b> exhibited significant antibacterial activity with MIC value of 1-8mg/ml.
