| Abstract: | The principle of democratic decentralization has made districts as nodal points for the general administration and contributing to the welfare of the people. With the creation of District Planning Committee (DPC), the focus of development plan has been shifted from macro to micro level planning considering district or even Community Development (CD) block as basic administrative units. For proper planning, information of the existing service sector facilities and its assessment is essential. The present paper attempts to examine and assess availability, distribution and identify gaps in the development process of service sector facilities like education, library, transportation, posts and telegraph, health, drinking water, power supply of community development block, Bolpur-Srinikaten. The study was conducted on the basis of simple and relative weighted score of service sectors activities of the block under study. It is observed from the study that service sector facilities are unevenly distributed and knowledge-communication is the most neglected service sector in Bolpur-Srinikaten. |
