Abstract:  The sampling design adopted by Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute for estimation of marine fish landings in India is a stratified two stage sampling design with stratification being done over space and time. Present study conists a modified design which uses post-stratified estimator to estimate the fish landings in a month in a zone along with its variance. The modified design improved the precision of the estimator as compared to the existing estimator. An empirical study is also carried out to demonstrate the performance of the modified design.
