Abstract: Metal ions such as Pb<sup>2+</sup>, Hg<sup>2+</sup>, Hg<sub>2</sub><sup>2+</sup>, Cd<sup>2+</sup>, Zn<sup>2+</sup>, Cu<sup>2+</sup>, Co<sup>2+</sup>, Ni<sup>2+</sup>, Fe<sup>3+</sup>, Fe<sup>2+ </sup>and Mn<sup>2+</sup> have been chromatographed on paper strips impregnated with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate and its admixtures with SiO<sub>2, </sub>CaSO<sub>4</sub>, Na<sub>2</sub>CO<sub>3</sub>, NaCl, NH<sub>4</sub>Cl, EDTA, NaOH, CaCO<sub>3</sub>, Na<sub>2</sub>HPO<sub>4</sub> and H<sub>3</sub>PO<sub>4</sub>. Common solvents namely acetone, acetonitrile, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, isopropanol, aqueous NaDDC and distilled water have been used as mobile phases. Several binary separations of heavy metal ions have been achieved experimentally.
