| Abstract: | A formal synthesis of the aromatic sesquiterpenes (±)-herbertene and (±)-cuparenes is accomplished via an efficient synthesis of 1,2,2-trimethylcyclopentanemethanol employing a combination of Claisen rearrangement and ring-closing metathesis reactions. |
