Abstract: 2-(Benzofuran-2-yl)-7-(substituted)imidazo[2,1-b]benzothia­z­oles have been prepared by condensation of 2-(2-bromoacetyl)­benzofurans and various 2-amino-7-(substituted) benzothiazoles under normal thermal condition as well as microwave irradiations. The latter condition for the reaction has been found to be much more efficient in terms of time and yield. The structures of the compounds have been established on the basis of their elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectral data. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of these compounds are described.
