Abstract: Syntheses of aurones <b>2a-i</b> have been achieved by the oxidation of 2'-hydroxychalcones <b>1a-i</b> with molar amount of mercury (II) acetate in pyridine and in catalytic amount of CuBr<sub>2</sub> in DMSO in good yields. The structures of the compounds <b>2a-i</b> have been established on the basis of IR and NMR and m.m.p. with an authentic sample.
