Abstract: A simple and one-pot synthesis of 1, 10-diethoxy-1<i style="">H</i>-pyrano[4, 3<i style="">-b</i>]quinolines <b style="">3a-e</b> from the respective 4-chloro-3-formyl-2-(2-hydroxyethen-1-yl)quinolines <b style="">2a-e</b> has been achieved (by Vilsmeier’s reaction on 4-hydroxyquinaldines) by way of intramolecular cyclization when reacted with ethanol in the presence of a few drops of hydrochloric acid. All the newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by their spectral and analytical data. Anti-bacterial studies also have been carried out for some of the synthesized compounds.
