Abstract: Azomethines <b>1a-m </b>react with ammonium thiocyanate/acetic acid to give the corresponding N-substituted-<img src='/image/spc_char/alpha.gif'>-aminoiso­thio­cyanates <b>2a-m</b> which are found to be excellent starting materials for the synthesis of hexahydro-1,3,5-triazines <b>3a-m</b>. Compounds <b>2a-m</b> on treatment with toluene-2,4-diisocyanate give the corresponding hexahydro-1,3,5-triazines <b>3a-m</b> in good yields.
