Abstract: Methyl 2-methyl-4-aryl-5-oxo-1<i style="">H</i>,4<i style="">H</i>-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquino­line-3-carboxylates <b style="">4a-d</b> and methyl 2-methyl-4-aryl-5-oxo-1<i style="">H</i>-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrocyclopenteno[<i>b</i>]pyridine-3-carboxylates <b style="">6a-e</b> have been synthesized by the condensation of cyclic 1,3-diones with aromatic aldehydes and <img src='/image/spc_char/beta.gif'>-aminocrotonate using thermal and ultrasound irradiation methods.
