| Abstract: | The synthesis of some new butenolides has been accomplished by the condensation of two  -keto acids, -(4-acetamidobenzoyl)acrylic acid and -(4-acetamido-3-nitrobenzoyl)acrylic acid with phenols using concentrated sulphuric acid as condensing agent. |
