Abstract: Modifications have been made to the simple conventional method of determining low- stress mechanical properties of fabrics to make it applicable for finished silk fabrics.  The bending rigidity of the fabrics has been obtained from the tensile stress-strain curves and shear rigidity by bias extension.  The correlation between the parameters obtained by the modified method and that obtained by the Kawabata evaluation test method is found to be good for a series of finished silk fabrics
