Abstract: A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of indolyl chromenes <b style="">4a-h</b> has been accomplished by the one-pot three-component reaction of salicylaldehyde and malononitrile with indole catalyzed by l-proline in water. All the synthesized compounds are evaluated for antioxidant activity. All of the compounds <b style="">4a-h</b> exhibited excellent free radical scavenging activity and found to be more potent than the standard. Compounds <b style="">4b-c</b> and <b style="">4h </b>showed very high reducing power
