Abstract: Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with picloram (2 mg/l), N<sup>6</sup>- benzyladenine(BA) (1 mg/l) and gibberellic acid (GA<sub>3</sub>) (1 mg/l) was found to be suitable for the establishment of callus cultures from leaves of <i style="">Nothapodytes foetida</i> (Wight) Sleumer. The callus upon extraction and analysis revealed the presence of a cytotoxic quinoline alkaloid, camptothecine (CPT) (2.893±2.38 mg %) and 9-methoxy camptothecine (MCPT) (0.4±0.4 mg %).
