Abstract: Studies on the uptake of Cr(VI) were carried out using the bacterium <i style="">Bacillus mycoides</i>, isolated from industrial wastewater in the presence of sulphate. Cr(VI) uptake by <i style="">B. mycoides</i> was found to be concentration dependent. The uptake of Cr(VI) was maximum at <i style="">p</i>H 7. The study suggested that sulphate acted as a non-competitive inhibitor of Cr(VI) and it was transported inside the cell through the cell membrane by some different sites rather than sulphate uptake transport site of the <i style="">B. mycoides</i> system.
