Abstract: The feasibility of starch and non-edible oil in liquid polyester polyol synthesis and their modification by using acrylic and vinyl monomers is studied. Polyurethane coatings are formulated by reacting synthesized polyols with aromatic isocyanate adduct. Performance properties of oil and bio-acrylic polyol based polyurethane coatings are compared. It is found that acrylation of polyol improves the overall performance of the coating. Synthesized polyols and polyurethane are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
