Abstract: Copper sulphate has been found to be an effective catalyst in water-ethanol solvent system for the synthesis of various tetra-substituted pyridine derivatives <i style="">via</i> Michael addition of <img src='/image/spc_char/beta.gif'>-dicarbonyl compounds to <i style=""><img src='/image/spc_char/alpha.gif'> </i>,<i style=""><img src='/image/spc_char/beta.gif'></i>-unsaturated oximes and subsequent ring closure. A rapid synthesis of heterocycles by this methodology is ecofriendly in nature in addition to remarkably improved yield and reduced reaction times.
