| Abstract: | This paper reviews subsidence control approaches adopted in underground coalmines. Subsidence, a sudden depression of the ground, occurs in two forms, trough and pothole subsidence. This can be hazardous to life and property as it occurs without any prior indication. Subsidence can be controlled by using partial extraction methods, stowing etc. in working mines. Backfilling and grouting can be used to stabilize unapproachable abandoned underground mines. |
