|Abstract:||A simple, rapid response prototype piezoelectric crystal (PEC) analyzer comprising PEC electrode coated with selective polymeric layer, a control unit, solenoid valves, quartz crystal frequency comparator with a digital display weighing approx 1.5 kg is developed. Four kinds of polymeric coating materials, (2-hydroxyethyl) ethylenediamine, (2-hydroxypropyl) ethylenediamine, silicone oil and polyethylene glycol 400 were examined as coatings to fabricate the sensor. Different coating properties contributing to SO2 sorption such as sorption extent, retention of SO2 by the coating material, cutoff or overload frequency range, and coating concentration were investigated. All the coated PEC based sensors were found reversible in their response to SO2 concentration (0.01-30 ppm) with response time (1-2 min) and baseline noise of 0.5Hz (read over 1 h) with a drift of < 10 Hz/h.|
