Abstract: Very-large-scale-integrated (VLSI) chips have made a great impact on the development of advanced control systems. The paper highlights the basic features and architecture of Programmable Logical Controller (PLC), Distributed Control System (DCS) and Personnel Computer (PC) based system used in almost all industries like paper, chemical, petrochemical, sugar, and fertilizer etc. The factors affecting the selection of PLC, DCS, and PC-based control system are covered in the paper. The comparison between PLC & DCS, PLC & PC-based control system, and PLC, DCS & PC-based control system are presented. Fuzzy based controller and its importance in the industry are also discussed.
